Even the best full-coverage concealers often come with a few pitfalls: namely, heavy formulas that come as the price for seamlessly erasing acne, redness, and dark circles. But at Milk HQ, our Product Development team was fairly certain that there had to be a way to deliver both a weightless formula and all the coverage you could need. Two years ago, we got to work testing countless variations of our newest drop: Milk Makeup Future Fluid All Over Cream Concealer.

Meet our concealer from the future, which blends a multi-use, medium-to-full-coverage formula with barrier-restoring skincare benefits. It’s like Artificial Intelligence for your skin, and we can’t wait for you to discover exactly what that looks like. Below, everything you need to know about your new makeup bag staple.

Can you use this concealer for full coverage?

Yes, but it’s so much more than your old-school full-coverage concealer, because you can use it all over your face in a multitude of different ways. Aside from 30 shades with medium-to-full, buildable coverage and a natural, skin-like finish, Future Fluid’s multi-use formula also adapts seamlessly to multiple areas of your face. Its weightless pigments completely cover everything you want them to—breakouts, redness, dark spots—while looking and feeling undetectable.

Is this concealer good for skin?

Like our other makeup essentials, Future Fluid doubles as another step in your skincare routine. It’s powered by our microbiome technology to help protect and restore your skin barrier—a first for our concealers. Future Fluid’s Hyaluronic AI Plant Complex contains six plant-powered ingredients that typically are found in serums, moisturizers and eye creams. All together, they’re gentle and effective ingredients that can be used for all skin types, says David Kim, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist based. With a formula that restores and protects your skin barrier from external aggressors that cause breakouts and wrinkles, your skin will look better the more you wear it.

So what exactly makes up this supercharged complex? The first component is hyaluronic acid, a hydrating ingredient that locks in moisture and plumps your skin in the process, says Dr. Kim. (If you’re looking for the best concealer for mature skin or dry skin, Future Fluid is that girl.) Next up, we added Defensil® (1%) and Revivyl™(0.5%). Both of these proprietary ingredients are the true workhorses helping to restore and protect your skin’s barrier function. Just like your iced latte, Future Fluid is also spiked with a dose of caffeine. In skincare form, it helps create a less puffy appearance, which is particularly useful in your under-eye area.

To help calm and soothe your skin no matter what it’s going through, we combined these ingredients with aloe vera and arnica. Dr. Kim says both botanicals are known for their anti-inflammatory properties and also act as antioxidants, which “can help reduce the oxidative damage caused by UV radiation, pollution, and stressors.”

What’s my shade of Milk Makeup Future Fluid Concealer?

We took our shade range just as seriously as Future Fluid’s ingredient list. To make sure everyone could find their perfect shade of Future Fluid, we tested a ton of options to carefully curate 30 shades with six different undertones.

To make things easy, we recommend using our Shade Finder Quiz to find your Future Fluid match. If you’re near a Sephora, you can also get shade-matched in store. Sara Wren, our Director of Artistry, recommends finding three shades closest to your skin tone, taking a small amount of each, and creating three stripes of color from your cheek to your jawline. Whichever one blends in completely is your shade.

How does Future Fluid compare to other Milk concealers?

Compared to our under eye brightener, Milk Makeup Sunshine Under Eye Tint + Brighten, which has a brightening effect and light coverage, Future Fluid is what you should reach for when you want more coverage and a natural finish that’s “not too dewy, but not too matte,” says Sara. The two can also be paired together on days you really want to brighten up your under eyes. (Layer Sunshine on first as a brightening base, and Future Fluid on top of it for full coverage.)

As for Flex Concealer... If you loved Flex, you’re gonna love Future Fluid even more. We took everything amazing about Flex, and made it so it does even more than conceal—and then some. We've got a guide here on how to choose your concealer shade, including a conversion chart that'll help you match your current Flex Concealer shade to your new Future Fluid shade.

How to Apply Milk Makeup Future Fluid Concealer

To let Future Fluid shine, pair it with primer. “Everyone should wear makeup primer, period,” says Sara. Layering primer underneath your concealer not only extends its wear but also adapts its finish to your specific complexion needs. For instance, you can make Future Fluid more matte with Pore Eclipse Mattifying Primer or dewier with Hydro Grip Primer

Our Hydro Grip Eye Primer is another amazing Future Fluid prep option if you’re focused on diminishing your dark circles. “Around your delicate eye area, concealer can cake, crease, or just not stay on,” says Sara. “Hydro Grip Eye Primer under Future Fluid makes for all-day smooth dark circle coverage.”

Once you’ve primed your skin, you’re ready to apply. We designed Future Fluid with a Dab + Swipe applicator, featuring a prism shape that you can wield in different ways to lay down just the right amount of coverage.

“The pointed tip is amazing for dotting onto blemishes and dark spots, or when you just need a small amount of product,” says Sara. “For under eyes and larger areas that need more coverage, I turn the applicator and swipe.” You can also use that flat side for sculpting and highlighting with shades slightly darker or lighter than your skin tone.

From there, Sara likes to spritz her face with Hydro Grip Set + Refresh Spray before blending out Future Fluid with a fluffy foundation brush for “an airbrushed look that feels weightless.” (A makeup sponge or clean fingertip works, too.) And that’s it! Sara says the multi-use formula is so effective, it’s the only complexion product she’s been wearing lately. But if you’re feeling inspired to add to your seamless base, we’d suggest reaching for your favorite Milk Makeup blush and jazzing up your eyes with some Y2K makeup
