Let’s get to know Josh Minter, aka @perks_of_being_josh. The art and theatre-obsessed high school senior uses his individuality and passions as an outlet for self-expression and positivity – something we could all learn from. He’s all about love > labels + creativity > conforming. We couldn’t be more here for it!
Josh! What makes you tick?
I am not a fan of cocky people or people who bring others down for being who they are. I see no reason for negativity or being a negative person. There’s so much hate in this world right now. No one deserves to be bashed on or belittled by anyone. Just spread positivity and accept everyone for themselves.
What are your hobbies?
The arts have played a huge role in my life and will continue to inspire me. I love to paint and draw. I’ve been drawing since I was really little and it’s become a big part of my life. A lot of the artwork I make has such an impact on me and represents a lot of the things I’ve been through. I think it’s important for me to draw and paint to get anything I need out on a more creative level. I am also a thespian! I love to perform and act in the school plays. It has really shaped me into the person I am today. The arts play such a huge part in my life and I’m so grateful for all of it.
What are your goals?
My goal in life is to live a happy life and to make myself known in the world. I don’t know what I want to be known for, but I want to be known for something in my life. I want to be someone kids look up to. It’s always been a dream of mine to be an inspiration to people.
What difference would you like to make in this world?
I would love to change the way people see others. There is such a stigmatism on labels and labeling people. I feel like it really isn’t necessary to put people in boxes or to make them label themselves. Everyone is just themselves and living their lives the way they want to. A lot of my life has been surrounded by labeling myself or people asking me how I identify myself, but at the end of the day I’m a human being living my life the way I want. I see no reason to label myself or to put a stereotype on me or anyone. People should live their life the way they want to and not put themselves in boxes or give into the stereotypes people put on them. I would love to see the world just be accepting of everyone and everything.

MILK from RuPaul’s Drag Race! She is always turning out so many different and unique looks. She truly is an inspiration of mine and I look up to her so much. She’s so unique and expresses a lot through her drag. She’s an icon and I hope to be just like her one day.

+Milk Makeup Face Gloss because it’s so versatile and does so much.
+Sunshine Skin Tint to give me some protection from the sun.
+Moisturizer so my skin doesn’t dry up and die on me!
+A perfume or cologne because I hate smelling weird and gross.
Who or what inspires your looks?
I would say I got a lot inspiration from art or colors. I base a lot of my looks off of colors or the way I’m feeling. When I’m drawing or painting I incorporate something that happens in my life or a color to represent how I’m feeling and I feel like that really comes to play in my looks.
What people would you like to get stuck in an elevator with?
I would have to say Van Gogh, Georgia O’Keeffe, David Bowie, and Lady Gaga. I feel like it would be a really interesting and fun elevator ride depending on how awkward I would be. I would probably freak out because I love all of those people so much and I look up to them all.
Favorite Milk Makeup product?
Definitely Face Gloss because it is such a versatile product. It provides a high shine, but it’s also super moisturizing! I love it on my lips, eyes, and face. It’s not sticky either which I absolutely love. I have so many favorites it’s ridiculous – they all perform beautifully. Milk products are so versatile so I love that I can do really anything with – it’s hands down my favorite makeup company and will always hold a special place in my heart.
