Meet Our Digital Art Director and World’s Coolest Dog Mom, Jenna DeRosa
by Freya Drohan and Abby McIntosh
You can tell a lot about a person by what’s in their bag, so what better way to get to know the people at Milk Makeup than to snoop through their most personal belongings? In the Bag will satisfy your nosy side and give you insight into the careers and lives of the people behind the products.
Meet Jenna DeRosa, our Digital Art Director, music-lover, and creative soul.
How would you describe your role at Milk Makeup?
I help conceptualize and execute various projects. I’m usually art directing more of the product-focused shoots, but I also oversee and/or design digital content such as e-mails, website content, and social posts. Directing and styling our still-life shoots is my favorite aspect of my job. We just did the cutest-ever Valentine’s Day shoot, and I can’t say that much about it, but I can say that I designed a mini heart-shaped bed for it.
What’s your favorite Milk Makeup product — why?
My favorite Milk Makeup product, if I had to choose just one, would be Gel Brow. It’s a great product to keep my eyebrows tamed! I love that the formula has a sort of translucent quality to it so you can be heavy-handed and not have crazy dark and fake looking brows.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Knowing that I’ve had a significant part in creating what the company is today. I started almost two years ago when Milk Makeup first launched. It’s amazing to see how far we have come and how much has been built in such a short amount of time.

What inspires you?
I’m constantly searching for things that give me the same rush I felt as a teenager, when I first discovered the NYC punk and hardcore music scenes. Venues like Coney Island High and ABC No Rio were places I went to often to see punk bands like the Casualties. This was before social media, so these were places I could go to meet friends, and discover new bands, and sneak beers in the bathroom. What is most inspiring to me are the people who chase that feeling and push forward to make new discoveries and carve new paths in art, music, and technology. I also love the energy of NYC at night — this is when I feel most inspired.
What keeps you sane?
Listening to Rachael Maddow. Working on personal passion projects. Dancing by myself. Discovering new music whether it’s old or new genres that I have never heard of before. Lately, I’ve been listening to the new Charlotte Gainsborough album, John Maus and King Krule.
What does your bag and its contents say about you?
I think my bag says that I am prepared for all types of events that may happen throughout the day — it’s more of an arsenal of tools. I have my travel sized hair brush for those frizzy days —it’s a random one from the drug store; my travel sized perfume, which is Nasomatto’s Black Afgano, because I am obsessed with smelling good at all times; and my roll + blot papers cus’…YA NEVA KNOW 😉.
If you weren’t doing this job – what would you be doing?
Building mini furniture for my dog Sadie, AKA BoBo.
